Tokyo, Japan of course is one of the world's meccas of menswear and men's fashion, with an incredibly expansive myriad of men's clothing stores all across the city, servicing not only the large community of menswear lovers in Japan, but from all across the world. And with that, there is one company in particular that is at the forefront of it all, and has a deep-rooted history in the humble beginnings of the now booming fashion industry in Japan!

HINOYA in the Ueno district of Tokyo, Japan, is one of the original heritage style Americana fashion stores, not only in this area, but in all of Japan itself! The original HINOYA store, believe it or not, was founded by Kingo Shimbo-San in 1928 in the Niigata Prefecture, before temporarily closing operations to open an Imagawayaki (sweet red bean pancake) shop in Asakusa (one of my personal favorite areas in Japan.) Eventually, after taking notice to the Japanese community's desire for U.S. Military Surplus, he once again opened up HINOYA, this time finally settling in Ueno after some brief moves, where he began selling authentic military surplus garments, permantly in Ueno in 1959.

Eventually, HINOYA began selling military reproduction brands, before finally becoming the largest importer of Levi's jeans during the large fashion boom in Japan from the 1960's to the current modern era. HINOYA eventually began garnering a reputation for have the most extensive raw selvedge denim jeans collection in Japan, carrying almost every Japanese raw selvedge denim brand that you could think of. HINOYA carries renowned raw denim brands such as ONI denim, Sugar Cane, Momotaro, Levi's Vintage Clothing, Blue Blue Japan, Studio D'Artisan, Warehouse & Co., as well as their own in-house raw selvedge denim brand, Burgus Plus!

I wholeheartedly recommend HINOYA to anyone who is visiting Tokyo (or Namba in Osaka,) because missing a trip to HINOYA, or any of it's sister stores being Sun House Tokyo, which is a retailer under the HINOYA corporate umbrella that specializes in more high-end luxury designer men's fashion such as Junya Watanabe, Engineered Garments, Kaptain Sunshine, F/CE and so many more!
